As many of you know our wonderful community pub is soon to be up for sale as the landlord of 10+ years, Chris Stairmand is moving on to pastures new.
In agreement with Chris’s post via The Wharf Facebook page, there is a lot of uncertainty with regards to the plans of future buyers, particularly if it is purchased to become part of a pub chain, or worse, a property developer.
Should The Wharf close for good, not only will it be another damning statistic of a countrywide trend across the UK, but it will also be a huge loss to our community and an awful waste of potential as the Wharf is a great community pub!
The Wharf has been a part of the community for roughly 180 years. Since Chris’s takeover (12 years ago), it has become an incredibly popular venue, renowned for its live music and beer selections and as such, is frequented by a huge collection of musicians, music lovers, and has won numerous awards with CAMRA over the last 12 years.
As well as this, there is a well-established, sizeable, mutually supportive and welcoming community presence.
WE CANNOT LOSE THIS!
To achieve this, we are seeking interest from people who are in a position to commit time or financially preserve the Wharf.
In order to ensure the lasting future of the Wharf #SavetheWharf intends to purchase the Wharf from Chris and turn it into a community owned pub.
We have tentatively begun exploring a community buyout option and there has already been an incredible amount of interest so far.
Meeting event dates will be announced in the blog..
